The initiative, detailed in a post by Beatriz Fernandes on July 7, 2025, it has sparked significant interest, particularly among the Ugandan diaspora. Fernandes, a vocal supporter of NUP and a frequent commentator on X as she is interested in Global country's freedom as a passion, shared an image outlining various contribution channels that were put by NUP administrators to collect funds from those individuals willing to help the party.
Fernandes, whose Social Media bio highlights her engagement with global political movements, expressed her commitment by pledging a substantial $4,000 contribution, calling for the creation of a GoFundMe account to streamline diaspora donations. Her post, which has garnered over 1,000 interactions, reflects a growing trend of digital mobilization, aligning with the #UgandaDecides2026 hashtag that has re-emerged as a rallying cry for young Ugandans.

“I have been informed that these are the different ways we can contribute towards the fundraising drive for my friend Bobi Wine,” she wrote, emphasizing her personal connection to the cause.

The fundraising drive, branded under the “National Unity Platform Fund Raising Drive for 2025/2026 Election Campaign,” targets resources to challenge the long-standing rule of President Yoweri Museveni, who has governed since 1986.

Bobi Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, transitioned from a celebrated musician to a political powerhouse, leveraging his “edutainment” style—fusing education and entertainment—to gain a 59% voter approval rating in a 2021 Market Intelligence Group survey. His leadership of NUP, founded in 2018 to combat corruption and human rights abuses, has positioned the party as a generational force, with the fundraising effort seen as a critical step to amplify its reach.

However, the campaign faces scrutiny following a 2021 Auditor General’s report, cited in a July 2024 [ TMAfrica.co.ug article ], which raised concerns over NUP’s accountability for Sh12 billion received from the Electoral Commission. The report, which triggered an ongoing investigation, has fueled debates about financial transparency, with some internet users labeling the drive as potentially fraudulent. Despite this, supporters have echoed Fernandes’ call for a GoFundMe platform, signaling robust diaspora enthusiasm.

The response on X  has been mixed but lively, with pledges to donate across all channels and news shared about the Auditor General’s findings, urging continued support for the “Gospel of Revolution.” Located at Plot 831/102, Bombo Road, Makerere, NUP’s headquarters serves as the campaign’s nerve center, with the party inviting contributions to “build a better future for Uganda.”

As of today, the fundraising drive’s success hinges on overcoming these financ
ial credibility concerns while capitalizing on Bobi Wine’s populist appeal. Fernandes’ advocacy has undeniably ignited a digital firestorm, setting the stage for a contentious yet transformative electoral battle.
