Bill Gates Sets Deadline for Gates Foundation, Pledges $107 Billion to Charity

In a significant move, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announced that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will wind down operations in 20 years, after exhausting its funds. Gates pledged to donate 99% of his fortune, estimated at $107 billion, to the foundation.

Over the next two decades, the foundation expects to spend over $200 billion on various causes, including health, education, global development, and gender equality. This donation is expected to be the second-largest philanthropic gift in US history.

The Gates Foundation has already spent over $100 billion since its inception 25 years ago, benefiting people in low-income countries affected by diseases like malaria. The foundation plans to spend around $9 billion annually until 2045.

Gates' decision comes amid the Trump administration's foreign aid cuts, with USAID facing significant reductions. The Gates Foundation's commitment to philanthropy is expected to have a lasting impact on global health and development initiatives.
