President Museveni Praises Ugandan Farmer Hajji Muhammad for Big Farm Success
President Yoweri Museveni praised Hajji Mohammed Zziwa Katanyoreka, a farmer from Mpigi District, for his amazing success. Hajji manages a 5-acre farm with 2,000 layer chickens, 1 acre of coffee mixed with bananas, and 4 dairy cows. He earns 550,000 Ugandan Shillings every day, more than many office workers.

President Museveni visited the farm and shared photos on X. He said Hajji’s hard work shows the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) belief that farming can lift people out of poverty. The NRM has pushed commercial agriculture since 1995, and Hajji’s farm is a great example. Coffee alone can bring in 18 million Shillings per acre yearly, according to a 2019 NRM report.
Hajji’s farm uses a smart plan called intercropping, growing coffee and bananas together. This method is safer and more profitable, a 2009 study found, because if one crop fails, the other might still do well. He also keeps dairy cows and chickens, making money from eggs and milk. Museveni compared Hajji’s success to the Parable of the Sower from the Bible, where good soil and effort bring a big harvest.
The government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), started in 2022, has helped farmers like Hajji. It gives 100 million Shillings per parish each year to move people from subsistence farming to earning cash. Over five years, each parish will get 800 million Shillings to grow their businesses. This shows rural areas can thrive without depending only on cities.
Hajji Zziwa thanked the president for support, saying it changed his life. Many Ugandans on X congratulated him, calling his farm an inspiration. This story proves that with hard work and good planning, farming can build a better future in Uganda!
