The Democratic Alliance, a new political group led by Mathias Mpuuga, announced that popular Ugandan musician Patrick Mulwana, known as Alien Skin, will lead efforts to mobilize young voters.

This move comes ahead of the party’s delegates conference on June 26, 2025, and the 2026 general elections.

Alien Skin, a 25-year-old musician from Kampala, is known for his unique music style and bold personality. Recently, he welcomed a son in September 2024, which has made him even more popular among young people.

The Democratic Alliance believes his fame can encourage more youth to vote. Since Studies show that celebrities can boost voter turnout by up to 10% in countries like Uganda, where young people make up most of the population but rarely vote.

Mathias Mpuuga, who left the National Unity Platform , for his acceptance of sharing 500 million Ugandan shillings for the tax payers in the Parliament, came to form the Democratic Alliance, sees Alien Skin as a key figure to bring change.

Mpuuga said Alien Skin represents many young, talented Ugandans who need guidance and organization. The party plans to use his popularity to connect with the youth, especially in cities like Kampala and beyond. This is a big change from traditional political leaders, as the alliance focuses on fresh faces to attract younger voters.

However, the decision has caused some debate. Some people worry about Alien Skin’s past troubles, including legal issues and public fights, which they say make him a risky choice for a leadership role. Others argue that his recent growth, like becoming a father, shows he is ready to lead positively. The party hopes to turn these concerns into opportunities by supporting his reform.

The Democratic Alliance is working to become a strong political force in Uganda, where politics has been shaped by historical struggles, especially in the Buganda region. By choosing Alien Skin, they aim to appeal to the youth, who are often ignored in elections.

On Social media, especially the research from ๐•, Facebook — shows many young Ugandans are excited about this move, with thousands viewing the announcement.

While there are challenges, the alliance believes Alien Skin’s energy will inspire a new generation to get involved. Everyone is watching to see how this partnership will play out as the conference and elections draw near.
