NUP Selects Luyimbazi Nalukoola as Flagbearer for Kawempe North By-Election

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has chosen city lawyer Luyimbazi Nalukoola to represent the party in the upcoming Kawempe North by-election.

This election, set for later next month, aims to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant by the late Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya.

Nalukoola was unveiled on Tuesday by the NUP election management committee during a vibrant ceremony at the party's offices in Makerere Kavule. He emerged as the flagbearer after surpassing nine other contenders in a competitive selection process.

Last week, the party organized a public debate where all contenders presented their plans for the people of Kawempe. Nalukoola's vision and commitment to the community resonated with the committee, earning him the coveted position.

In his acceptance speech, Nalukoola pledged to collaborate with all party members, including his former competitors, to "take on our adversaries as a unified force." He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, stating, "I have been entrusted with a ticket from a formidable political party of our times. As a unified force, we must ensure that NUP retains this seat."

Addressing concerns about succeeding the late Ssegirinya, Nalukoola acknowledged the challenge, saying, "Queries have been asked that though I suggest to be in position of Ssegirinya, will I try to fit in the shoe size of the deceased?

I won't be sure that I can compete with the late Muhammad, but I will try my best to wear his fitting shoe to come over and walk with the fellow natives of Kawempe North and Ugandans at large."

The Electoral Commission has announced key dates for the by-election, promising a transparent and well-structured voting process that will allow residents of Kawempe North to elect their next leader.
