Uganda and DR Congo Strengthen Ties as Presidents Museveni, Tshisekedi Meet.

The two leaders held extensive talks on security, infrastructure development, and economic cooperation, aiming to foster stronger bilateral relations and address pressing regional issues.

Entebbe, Uganda - In a significant move to supportive regional cooperation and security, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda hosted President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at State House Entebbe.

"I received the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E Felix Tshisekedi, this afternoon at State House Entebbe," President Museveni posted on X. "We discussed, among other issues, Security between Uganda and DRC, Regional Security, and infrastructural developments, including key roads of mutual economic benefit. We are all in agreement that what Congo needs is what Uganda needs. Hence, we have discussed everything here, and I thank H.E Tshisekedi for responding positively to my invitation for this meeting."

Key areas of focus included strengthening border security and combating terrorism, particularly in the eastern DRC, as well as developing strategic roads to enhance trade and economic ties.

This meeting builds on previous engagements between the two nations, including the signing of the Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement in 2019 to combat rebel groups. Uganda has also contributed troops to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

President Museveni praised President Tshisekedi's efforts in combating terrorism and promoting peace in the region. Uganda has a long history of contributing to regional peace and stability, including restoring peace in Rwanda and hosting around 1.5 million refugees.

The strengthened partnership between Uganda and the DRC is expected to have far-reaching benefits for regional stability, economic growth, and cooperation.
