The Inspiring Biography of Uganda's Music Icon Cindy Sanyu.


Cindy Sanyu, born Cinderella Sanyu Muyonjo on August 28, 1985, in Kampala, Uganda, is a renowned singer, songwriter, and actress. Hailing from the Mbale District, Cindy's musical journey began at age 6 in her Local church.

Early Life and Education

Cindy grew up in Ntinda Barracks, Kampala, where she was exposed to military training and tear gas. She attended Wenale Primary School in Mbale District, followed by Ngora High School for senior one and two. She then transferred to Wenale View Secondary School Mbale for senior three and four. Cindy later enrolled at Makerere University but dropped out to pursue her music career.

Music Career

Cindy's music breakthrough came when she participated in the "Capital Radio All Stars talent search" at 16, taking third place. She worked with producer Steve Jean, leading to her participation in the "Coca-Cola Pop Stars" contest (2003). Cindy formed Blue 3 with Jackie Chandiru and Lilian Mbabazi, winning numerous awards, including:

- Best Artist/Group from Uganda & Best Music Video from Uganda (2005 Kisima Music Awards)
- Video of the Year ("Hitaji") (2005 Pearl of Africa Music Awards)
- Video of the Year ("Burrn") (2007 Pearl of Africa Music Awards)

 


Solo Career and Acting

Cindy embarked on a solo career in 2008, releasing her debut album "Ayokyayokya" (2009), which topped East African charts. She has since released successful songs, including "Selekta." Cindy made her acting debut in 2010 with Ugandan film "The Last Hour" and has since appeared in films like "The Pardon" and "The Life."

Personal Life and Awards

Cindy has a daughter, Amani, with her former partner Mario Brunetti. She married Joel Okuyo Prynce on December 11, 2021, and has a child with him. Cindy has won:

- Best Female Artist at the 2013 and 2014 Uganda Music Awards
- Nominated for Best Female Artist at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards
