Sports - Manchester United began life after Erik Ten Hag with a resounding 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, advancing to the quarter-finals under temporary manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy, a fan favourite and former United striker, took charge after Ten Hag's 29-month reign ended on Monday. The Dutchman's temporary term started with a bang, thanks to goals from Casemiro (2), Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes (2).

United dominated from the start, with Casemiro opening the scoring with a stunning 15th-minute strike from nearly 30 yards. The midfielder's powerful shot crashed into the net off the underside of the bar, sending the Old Trafford crowd into raptures.

Fernandes' deflected free-kick and Casemiro's second goal gave United a 4-1 lead, before Conor Coady reduced the deficit in first-half stoppage time. Fernandes sealed the win with his second goal in the 59th minute, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing with ease.

United's win was marked by energetic performances from Casemiro, Garnacho, and Fernandes, who shone in a dominant display. The Red Devils will now look forward to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, buoyed by Van Nistelrooy's temporary stewardship.
