Kawempe, Kampala, Uganda - In the noisy streets of Kawempe, a different kind of language is spoken - the language of nice love. Men in this vibrant community show affection in unique, understated ways, often leaving their partners wondering.
For Nalwanga Mayimuna , a local vendor or retailer, it's the small surprises that melt her heart.
Her partner, Kaggwa, frequently brings her favourite snacks, like roasted cassava or sweet potatoes, to brighten her day. "He never says much, but these little gestures make me feel loved," she smiles.
Nearby, at a local mechanic shop, Owori's partner, Nansubuga Shakira, helps him with tasks, easing his workload. "She is always there, supporting me, even when I don't ask," Owori appreciates.
In Kawempe's markets, men prioritize quality time with their loved ones. They share meals, like matooke or chapati, and engage in lively conversations. "We bond over simple things," says Nakku, a food vendor.Protective tendency are clear, too. Men ensure their partners' safety, especially at night, walking them home or escorting them to public transport. "He always looks out for me," acknowledges Namutebi Felista a student.
Active listening is a major skill of Kawempe's men. They offer a supportive ear, engaging in deep conversations, and validating their partners' emotions. "He understands me like no one else," says Kyomuhendo, a local teacher in Bwaise when asked by ShivoUpdates Team Member.
In this community, men show love through actions, not just words. They assist with household chores, cook meals, and care for children.Romantic outings are planned, often to nearby towns or spots, Hotels. Physical touch, though nice speaks volumes, gentle hugs and sometimes holds which is rare in most people.
Unconditional acceptance is the foundation of Kawempe's relationships. Men embrace their partners' strengths and weaknesses, promoting a deep sense of belonging.
In Kawempe, love is a quiet, yet powerful force. By recognizing and appreciating these delicate gestures, partners deepen their connections, strengthening the thread of their community.
